Celebrating Christmas in July: Joyful Activities to Beat the Summer Heat

As the summer gets hotter, sometimes you just want to find activities to do inside with the air conditioning on full blast. Here’s an idea: Have you ever celebrated Christmas in July? It’s a delightful way to embrace the holiday spirit and enjoy the warmth of summer simultaneously. Whether you're longing for a touch of winter magic or simply want to create a fun-filled event, here are three fantastic activities to celebrate Christmas in July and spread cheer with your loved ones at home. (Or you can just come by The Wreath Stand this Saturday for all the Christmas in July goodness!)

Set Up a Small Tree

  • Nothing captures the essence of Christmas quite like a beautifully decorated tree. Even in the middle of summer, setting up a small Christmas tree can instantly transport you to a winter wonderland. Choose a compact-sized tree and adorn it with twinkling lights, ornaments, and garland. Get creative and use summery elements like seashells and beach-themed ornaments. It's a delightful sight that adds a touch of enchantment to your Christmas in July celebration.
  • For additional fun, put everyone’s name in a basket, draw names, and give a $5 limit to buy gifts. We used to do this every year on our summer vacation. We’d shop for our secret person and see what we could get for $5. On the last evening of our trip, we’d exchange gifts. It’s such a sweet memory for all of us.

Iced Hot Cocoa and Sugar Cookies

    • Warm beverages and sweet treats are synonymous with the holiday season. Adapt these traditional treats to beat the summer heat by creating iced hot cocoa and refreshing sugar cookies. Whip up a batch of hot cocoa, let it cool, and pour it over ice. Add a dollop of whipped cream, a sprinkle of cocoa powder, or even crushed candy canes for an extra festive touch. Oh my goodness, I want some NOW!!
    • Pair your iced cocoa with scrumptious sugar cookies. For even more fun, mix Santa cookies with summer fun shapes like beach balls, sunglasses, or palm trees. Together decorate the cookies with colorful icing, sprinkles, or edible glitter to evoke the holiday spirit. (I’m getting so hungry!) Enjoy these delightful treats while basking outside in the warmth of the summer sun, creating a unique fusion of holiday cheer and seasonal refreshment.

Blast Christmas Music and Watch a Christmas Movie

    • Christmas in July wouldn't be complete without playing Christmas music from July 20-25 (isn’t that right, Rachel?) Compile a playlist of your favorite holiday tunes and let the merry melodies fill the air. Sing along, dance, and reminisce about past Christmases.
    • Gather together and cozy up for a classic Christmas movie marathon. Whether it's a heartwarming family film or a hilarious comedy, watching a Christmas movie will transport you to a winter wonderland, even in the midst of summer. I’m actually having a “dive in movie” event at our pool in my apartment community. We’re going to show a Christmas movie, Elf, outside while people float in the swimming pool. We’ll top it off with iced chocolate milk and Christmas cookies!

Embrace the joy and warmth of the holiday season, regardless of the time of year! In fact, we'll be celebrating Christmas in July this Saturday, July 22! You’re not going to want to miss this fun day at our store! We’ll have Christmas cookies, Christmas music, Iced cocoa, and a great sampling of our upcoming Christmas merchandise. We can’t wait to spend this Saturday with you!

Until next time, Have a sugar cookie for me!

    Joy
